Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities, subsidiaries of PPL Corporation, have a partnership with the Kentucky Office for the Blind to assist and advise the companies on accommodations for candidates and employees with vision-related disabilities. Specifically, LG&E and KU offer alternative arrangements for candidates who are blind or visually impaired that exempts those candidates from pre-employment testing because it is not accessible. Instead, LG&E and KU permit visually impaired candidates to complete a JAWS® Certification test. JAWS, which stands for Job Access With Speech, is an online knowledge-based exam compatible with the JAWS Screen Reader. These exams are designed to demonstrate proficiency in using JAWS software applications. Once hired these employees receive workplace accommodations to meet their needs.
