Herman Miller incorporated a Mindfulness Class, a once-a-week, 90-minute session that lasts 8 weeks with a one-day retreat at the conclusion. The purpose and focus are on assessing the growth of individuals in connectedness, communication, problem-solving, creativity, & innovation. Building upon this offering, hour-long sessions on Mindfulness and Anxiety, Depression, and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) sessions were also offered to all employees to attend in person or online. The attendees learned how mindfulness can help manage everyday stress along with the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and SAD. Further, Herman Miller also launched a program for employees to teach “Be Nice Action Hour” sessions on-line and in person. These sessions help reduce stigma and recognize mental health concerns in us and coworkers and gives attendees a plan of action so they can get a person to the help they need.
