In recognition of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) celebrated annually on May 19th, Disability:IN Chicagoland hosted a virtual discussion designed to build awareness on the importance of digital accessibility in the workplace and marketplace. GAAD, first recognized in 2012, was designed to shed light on the need for digital access and inclusion for people with disabilities. Data from a 2020 study showed that 98% of websites have at least one accessibility issue on their homepage, with the majority of homepages averaging more than 60 issues. As this data demonstrates, there remains a need to improve digital accessibility for the more than one billion people with disabilities worldwide. Jeff Wissel, Chief Accessibility Officer at Disability:IN, joined a fireside chat with Ron Mallicoat, Executive Vice President and Group Managing Director – Wealth Management at Northern Trust, for a discussion on digital accessibility in business.
