Wellness @Work is the theme for Disability:IN North Carolina’s spring event in honor of Mental Health Awareness month in May. The event will be hosted by MetLife and their Business Resource Group (BRG), MetLife Diverse Abilities Network at their IT campus in Cary, NC. Join us to hear Dr. Thomas Dooley, an entrepreneurial biomedical research scientist share his profoundly personal message, “The High Cost of Anxiety”. The Opioid epidemic has cost more than 13,000 North Carolinian’s their lives from unintential overdoses since 1999. Dr. Thomas Dooley has served in various leadership roles in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry and in academia. At a young age Dooley’s son was prescribed medication for anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder, starting him on the path to addiction. Tragically, Dooley lost his son to an opioid overdose in 2017. Since then Dr. Dooley has redoubled his efforts to develop safer medications to treat anxiety disorders.
Following Dr. Dooley’s address, Jonathan Kappler, Senior Advisor and Chief of Staff from the Office of the Deputy Secretary for Behavioral Health & Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities will facilitate a round table discussion comprised of subject matter experts who are engaged with strategies to stem the opioid crisis in North Carolina. Join us for an engaging an informative event. Registration is now open!
