April Seiffert
Describing myself, starts with defining myself. July 12, 1997, I thought I lost my identity when I lost my sight, as I had only ever defined myself by the fact that I am a Nurse. I now Define myself as a Mother of two beautiful girls, a wife, the youngest of three daughters of a proud Army father and Mother, a Woman, a Nurse of 23 years, an advocate, friend, peer and finally as an individual that lives with 1 disability. I have worked as a frontline clinical Nurse, Research Nurse, Advocate for Abused Women and Children with disabilities, Rehabilitation Teacher for the Visually Impaired, and here at Centene as a Medical Triage Auditor, QI coordinator, medical Management Auditor and currently Senior Trainer – Auditor. Part of my success as a Blind professional is to not accept the barriers imposed by social perception and technology. I am currently the co-president for the abilities employment inclusion group for Centene formed in November 2018. My co-president and I are energized to be a part of the inclusion movement for all abilities to work, contribute and grow.
